Before and After
Are you considering Botox®? If so, you’re not the only one! Botox use is on the rise, as more and more people have come to realize that getting Botox® is simple, safe procedure that thousands of men and women have had done. Many have found that it helps recapture that “youthful look” that so many people been desiring.
As we get older, it’s natural that wrinkles start to form. Typically, wrinkle will start around the eyes, also known as “crow’s feet”. Next, it’s common to see wrinkles form in the forehead and between the eyebrows. It’s common to get Botox® to help prevent wrinkles from forming in these areas, or to help them not to become deeper.
There are other reasons that someone might choose to get Botox® – it’s not just used for treating wrinkles. Studies have shown that it can help with migraines, as well as preventing muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.
After applying a numbing agent, Dr. Samuelson will use an extremely fine needle to inject Botox ® into the treatment area. The process is typically painless and completed within 10 to 15 minutes.
Since 2002, the use of Botox ® has been approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of wrinkles. Side effects are uncommon, but there have been some reports of bruising, pain or swelling around the injection site. Generally speaking, most patients are good candidates for Botox ®. However, as with any treatment, it’s always best to discuss your medical history and any current prescriptions you might be taking. For example, if you are taking blood thinners, the doctor may advise that you stop taking them a few days prior to your treatment.
After your treatment, you’ll be able to resume normal activities right after getting Botox ®. You’ll want to be careful of rubbing the treated area, though. Doing so might cause the injected Botox ® to move to other parts of your face.
After your treatment, it’s possible you may not notice a change right away. Typically, it takes about 3 to 7 days for results to appear. With some patients, it can take up to as long as two weeks. The results should last for anywhere between three and six months. It’s during that time frame that the area injected with Botox causes the muscles to not contract, and that’s what prevents wrinkles from forming, if they already exist, from deepening.
The first step in finding out more about Botox is to make an appointment with our office. Dr. Samuelson will meet with you, and during your consultation he’ll learn what you’d like to get out of your treatment.
